Dr. Melanie Yazzie, a University of Minnesota professor, spoke at an anti-capitalist, pro-Palestinian event, advocating for the dismantling and decolonization of the U.S.

She emphasized the responsibility of people in the U.S. to work towards decolonization, criticizing the country as the “greatest predator empire.”

According to the professor, “It’s our responsibility as people who are within the United States to go as hard as possible to decolonize this place because that will reverberate all across the world.”

“Because the U.S. is the greatest predator empire that has ever existed,” she explained.

“And that the goal is to dismantle the settler project that is the United States for the freedom and the future of all life on this planet,” she continued. “It very much depends on that.”

She co-founded The Red Nation, an anti-colonial and anti-capitalist group, and expressed the goal of dismantling the settler project of the United States.

Additionally, she implied that the world changed with the Hamas attacks on Israel, linking it to the “alternative path for native nations.”
