The mayor of Edison, New Jersey, Sam Joshi, explained why the city refused entry to a bus of migrants and asylum-seekers from Texas due to identification and security concerns.

“They couldn’t be identified, and that is a major problem. That’s a major security risk. It’s a health risk. And we’re just not going to tolerate that,” Joshi said.
There are concerns about the security and health risks posed by the migrants.
“Edison Township police officers did not know if any of those 40 individuals were carrying weapons. They couldn’t be identified, and that is a major problem. That’s a major security risk. It’s a health risk. And we’re just not going to tolerate that,” Joshi said.
Local officials are taking steps to address the situation, including considering transportation back to the U.S.-Mexico border.
Governor Murphy is coordinating with partners to find a solution.
