Rock icon Sir Mick Jagger criticized Governor Ron DeSantis, a prominent guest at his Florida concert, on Monday night, as reported by Florida Today.
The lead singer of the Rolling Stones made a statement while performing at the Camping World Stadium: “We have some great local celebrities that have come tonight,”
He added, “Ron DeSantis is up there in the suite. He’s having a date night with Mickey Mouse. I’m so glad they finally made up.”
Jagger criticized DeSantis for his prolonged conflict with the Walt Disney corporation, a major employer in Florida known for its theme parks.
This dispute arose when Disney condemned DeSantis’ legislation that restricted the discussion of LGBTQ topics in public schools.
In response, DeSantis retaliated against Disney by seizing control of the special taxing district governing the Walt Disney World complex and threatening to build toll roads and prisons in close proximity to the parks.
Disney countered with a lawsuit, alleging that DeSantis was targeting the company for its political views. The dispute was eventually resolved through a legal settlement.
In the past few months, especially during his campaign, DeSantis attempted to minimize his cultural clash with Disney, despite facing criticism from Trump allies during his unsuccessful presidential bid.
At 80 years old, Jagger has also criticized Trump in his recent performances with his bandmates. Notably, while Trump held a rally in the South Bronx last month, Jagger was performing at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, just across the Hudson River.
Jagger mentioned, referring to the adult film actress whose secret payments from Trump led to his legal trouble in New York, “I was a bit worried about the weather tonight. I thought we were going to get a Stormy Daniels but we’re all right.”
